Sometimes I miss England.

You got Long John Silver's haven't you?

It does look damp and dreary in that picture doesn't it? Just makes you pine for the old country.

Maybe a Long John Silvers in Seattle will help.

Long John Silver's doesn't even come close. There's nothing quite like fish and chips and mushy peas wrapped up in newspaper on a cold damp English November evening... The thought still brings chills to my spine.

I will never forget 22 November 1963. I was in a fish and chip shop when it happened.

Mushy peas? I don't think that's even legal here in Australia... is it...?!? [smiles happily]

Wow... the earliest international event I remember very clearly [apart from watching the moon landings in 1969] was the shooting of John Lennon in 1980! Golly!

iezplywI remember exactly where I was on November 22nd, 1963, for whatever it is worth. Rumors came up to the 7th floor dental techniques lab of the Med Sciences Building where I was a sophomore student, then there were TV's set up in the ground floor lobby. Fish and chips were not available. We were all shattered by the events. That day changed us and our country for the next 10 to 20 years.

Do you know that before I ran across it on a blog somewhere earlier this year, I didn't realize that mushy peas were actualy cooked that way intentionally?

Just thought it was a self-deprecating reference to the British approach to cooking vegetables!

Oh Bonnie. How could you?

I'm going to have to do a whole post, or maybe even aseries of posts, on mushy peas now to educate all of my American friends on the origin, health benefits, and correct way to cook this English delicacy.

I'm sorry.

And I don't remember 1963. I wasn't here yet.

Does the blogosphere have any corners? If I can find one I will go sit in it now.
