Kayaker for Interior Secretary

President Obama today nominated the CEO of outdoor retailer REI, Sally Jewell, to be Interior Secretary. Sally lists kayaking and mountaineering among her interests.

This is a good thing.

Followers of this blog all know that people who go on the water in little boats develop a broad range of extraordinary skills and strengths.

What next?

A Laser sailor for Secretary of Energy? Any suggestions?

A windsurfer for Secretary of State? No, that would be way too crazy...

OK, certainly a different choice from what you may expecct. At least she is someone you would expect to be concerned with preserving our national park and resources, unlike some other Secretaries of the Interior (cough, cough, James Watt, cough, cough).

She does have quite an interesting resume. Her first job out of college was as an engineer for an oil company. An oil company engineer as Secretary of the Interior! The "drill baby drill" crowd should be drooling over that prospect.
